Meet Some of Our Currently Placed Nannies
We actively seek passionate, dedicated and qualified caregivers for our distinguished Boston families.
Hollie Sorenson has been placed through the Boston Nanny Centre as a live in nanny since January 2014, beginning when the family had one 3 month old and continuing through the birth of their second child just over a year later. Caring for others comes naturally to Hollie. She was nearly 14 when her younger sister was born, so she learned the responsibilities of childcare at an early age. Hollie began her career as a nanny following high school. She worked in the field for 3 years before pursuing her degree in International Studies. Upon graduation, Hollie lived in Japan for two years and worked as an assistant language teacher to elementary and high school students. References describe her as calm, kind and gentle with their children. She is a wonderful communicator, who can relate to people of any age and ability. Her long tenure with one family showcases her commitment to the profession and ability to support a family through various developmental stages and transitions. She is one in a million.
Elis has been placed through the Boston Nanny Centre in five long-term daytime positions, five long-term overnight newborn care positions, and numerous daytime & overnight temporary positions since the beginning of 2007. Originally from the Dominican Republic, when Elis first arrived in the US, she cared for two infants in her own home and then became a nanny for one family for three years. Over that time frame she also assisted another family with weekend childcare, including overnights. In her placements through our agency, Elis has worked with children from newborn through school-aged, including multiples and children with special needs. In speaking with her references, it is very clear that Elis is a natural caretaker who goes above and beyond for her employers. She is a sweet, extremely patient woman who is trusted by the families for whom she has worked. Elis is an amazing candidate with a tremendous work ethic. She embodies all that is ideal in a nanny professional.
It’s rare to have a candidate with such extraordinary academic credentials. Julie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction in Elementary Education. Throughout college, Julie worked as a live in summer nanny, caring for 3 young girls. She also worked as a part-time nanny with infant twins during her senior year before transitioning to the teaching field in 2013. Julie has been a substitute teacher with preschool through sixth graders, as well as a primary educator for first, fourth, and fifth graders. When not in the classroom she also worked as a tutor and continued her nanny work during summers and school breaks. Julie has been a full-time nanny through the Boston Nanny Centre since September 2017, beginning when the family’s children were ages 5, 4, and 3 months. We are proud to have her as a BNC nanny representative in the local community.
Carlyne has been caring for children in a professional capacity for 17 years, first as a lead daycare teacher and currently as a full-time nanny. She has been successfully placed through our agency in two long-term assignments, caring for infants and toddlers, as well as many temporary positions with children of all ages. In addition to Carlyne’s professional experience, she is the proud mother of four. Carlyne’s former employers and coworkers all described her as being a delight who brings optimism, positivity, and kindness into any situation she encounters. She is patient, knowledgeable, loving, dependable, and intuitive about connecting with each child as an individual. Carlyne’s heart of gold epitomizes every family’s ideal nanny.

In addition to providing qualified nannies, the Boston Nanny Centre offers a range of additional nanny staffing support services for your convenience. Our goal is to make the entire nanny placement process seamless and transparent for all parties involved
Families start our process by completing our online family application. A placement counselor will email the family upon receipt of the application to set up a time for a consultation that will ensure we have an accurate understanding of both the position the family is looking to fill, as well as the type of candidate they are most interested in considering. A registration fee is taken at that time.
Absolutely. We have created a family/nanny agreement template that outlines all aspects of the placement, including the base schedule, core job responsibilities, compensation, and paid time off. We’re here for guidance on how to create a competitive, fair agreement for both parties.
Paid time off is the most common benefit, including paid vacation days, holidays, and personal/sick days. Candidates are counting on their base weekly salary 52 weeks a year. For part-time hires, the total number of paid days off is prorated based on the nanny’s typical work schedule. According to the Massachusetts Domestic Worker’s Bill of Rights, the accrual of unpaid time off and job-protected unpaid leave is required of all families employing caregivers for more than 16 hours per week.
Monthly health insurance stipends, T passes, cell phone reimbursement, tuition reimbursement, and health club memberships are also common in full-time compensation packages. Merit-based bonuses may also be earned throughout the year.
Once hired by a BNC family, the nanny becomes their household employee. The family pays the nanny directly for hours worked. We advise our clients to use a payroll company for simplicity and ease. A payroll company will make sure the nanny’s paycheck reflects all applicable tax deductions and will provide the family with the necessary tax documents at the end of the year. GTM Payroll Services offers a free consultation to explain taxes and payroll and to provide support. The family is responsible for certain taxes as a household employer. These payroll taxes consist of FUTA (federal unemployment tax), SUTA (state unemployment tax), and one half of FICA (social security and Medicare tax). Worker’s Compensation is legally required in the state of Massachusetts, as well.
For your convenience, here is a calculator to estimate your federal and state tax obligations for a nanny.
We are proud that while most of our nannies sign a one-year minimum contract, many stay with their families for years, and when their service is no longer needed, they confidently return to us for new placements. Yet, if for some reason, things don’t work out with your first placement, we provide you with a 30 or 90 day replacement guarantee depending on the pricing package you choose.
We hand-select candidates for each specific search, so many families only end up seeing between one and four candidates before making a decision. It is common for our families to make a decision after seeing only one or two candidates!
However, we keep working with a family until we find the right match.
We recommend that each family give themselves 4-8 weeks of lead time to find a nanny but we are able to accommodate shorter timelines. Depending on the difficulty and requirements of the search, it may take more than 8 weeks to find the perfect person. We suggest starting your search no sooner than 3 months before your start date.
Yes, we do place part-time nannies that work 30 hours or less. These placements can be more challenging to fill as most of our nannies are professional childcare providers looking for full-time work. Please call first to discuss your scheduling needs before filling out our application.
For families who need overnight help with multiples, have overnight work shifts, or want some hours of much-needed sleep, we offer overnight care services. Fill out our Family Application to get started and learn more about our night nannies.
Yes! We offer a variety of screening services. If you have identified a candidate independently and would like our support to determine the prospective nanny’s suitability, we can help. Inquire today for more information on our screening services.
Our background check covers: a comprehensive criminal history, criminal history checks in each county that the nanny has resided in, the sex offender registry, the national security watch list, a social security number validation trace, and a driving record check (if applicable).
